Benjamin Haselman’s search in the snow and cold on Monday morning ended when he uncovered Winter Carnival treasure hunt medallion worth $10,000 in Como Park.
The contest is a winter carnival tradition, but Haselman said the bitterly cold temperatures this year, might have given him an advantage over other medallion hunters.
Haselman said he has participated in the hunt with his family since he was very young, and when he was 6, he came close to finding the medallion while searching Hidden Falls with his dad.
The Pioneer Press has been sponsoring the treasure hunt since 1952. Fury Jeep presented Haselman with a his big-winning check.
