Robbinsdale Area Schools has a plan for making up days missed due to the cold in January.
The school is recommending school calendar changes to the school board, by making up instructional time for half-day kindergarten students.
The district wants to change the March 6 and 7 parent-teacher conference days to instructional days for half-day kindergarten students. Kindergarten parents will schedule conferences with teachers on regular conference nights. If any additional kindergarten conference nights are added, the school will let parents know.
Absences will be excused for families if they must miss these days.
“We value instructional time and take the loss of such time seriously,” said Superintendent Aldo Sicoli. “The way that each district decides to make up the instructional time will vary based on their current school calendar and other constraints. We reviewed our remaining professional development days, parent-teacher conference days, and contractual guidelines when making this decision.”
School officials say if there are additional weather-related school cancelations, the district plans to add instructional days for all students.
“I know that this has been a challenging winter so far for our families,” said Sicoli. “We appreciate our families, staff, and the community for their patience and support as we have worked through this frigid weather.”
