We're learning more details about the circumstances surrounding a photo that is causing controversy around the St. Paul Police Department.
The photo shows a police officer posing in front of a vehicle with an apparently unconscious man inside. The officer, who is wearing a St. Paul Police uniform, is giving the thumbs-up in the photo. The words, "A quick pic before I arrest this guy," are Photoshopped over the photo.
A source within the St. Paul Police Department tells KSTP, the photo shows an officer with his friend. The source says the officer's friend was sleeping in his car during a break from work and the officer took the photo as a joke. The officer's friend Photoshopped the words over the photo and posted it to Facebook, because he thought it was funny, according to the source.
When KSTP.com contacted Sgt. Paul Paulos with the St. Paul Police Department, he confirmed that the officer in the photo is a St. Paul Police officer, but he would not comment on the nature of the photo.
Paulos tells KSTP.com, "This matter is currently being investigated to find out what happened on the date in question. Once the investigation is done, the information to your questions will be released." He further commented that Chief Tom Smith is aware of the photo.
At this point, Paulos is unable to comment further because of the investigation.
