An intense winter storm has dumped more than a foot of snow in some parts of Wisconsin and whipped up winds that have created treacherous travel conditions.
Some school districts canceled another day of classes Friday in a long, grueling winter, including Eau Claire, Altoona, Bloomer and Neillsville.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation advised against travel on sections of Highway 8, Highway 13 and Highway 51. In northwestern Wisconsin, 15 inches of new snow has fallen at Hawthorne and 12 inches in Superior.
In Eau Claire, officials say part of a roof collapsed at the Kmart store under the weight of heavy snow. No one was hurt.
In nearby Altoona, firefighters rescued a man pinned underneath the collapsed awning on his mobile home early Friday. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a leg injury.
