State Girls Hockey: #1-seed East Grand Forks Rallies, Avoiding Upset By St Paul United

With six minutes to go in the Class A Semifinals, #1-seed East Grand Forks was on the ropes.  But after cashing in on two late power play chances, the Green Wave survived an upset bid by St Paul United.

Trailing 2-1 late, East Grand Forks' Mak Lengei scored one power play goal with 5:26 to go.

Alexa Mack scored the eventual game-winner on another power play less than two minutes later - taking a 3-2 lead with 3:39 to go.

St Paul United got on their upset bid early thanks to two Alev Baysoy goals 62 seconds apart in the first period that sent United to a 2-0 lead.

Mack's first goal of the game cut into the lead, pulling back some momentum for the Green Wave heading to the first intermission.

A scoreless second set the stage for East Grand Forks' late rally.

Madi Galstad made 14 saves earning the win for the Green Wave.  Catherine Johnson made 31 saves for St Paul United.

The 2014 State Tournament is the first appearance for both St Paul United and East Grand Forks.  Their semifinal pairing meant at least one State Tourney debutante would play for the Class A Championship on Saturday.

East Grand Forks will face defending Class A champion Blake in this year's Final on Saturday at noon.
