Senator John Marty, (DFL) Roseville, fought off attempts for 20 years to weaken the law he passed to ban lobbyists from giving gifts to lawmakers.
Last session, lawmakers passed a last minute amendment that weakened the gift ban and allows special interests to throw lavish parties for lawmakers.
Besides undoing the change, Marty also wants to require public disclosure of all lobbyist contributions. Right now, gifts of $200 or less can remain secret.
Political analysts say Minnesota's disclosure laws were some of the best in the nation but now rank near the bottom.
