INTERVIEW: Walking at Your Work Desk

There's a growing number of employees who no longer have to sit at their desks while they work.

Researchers from the Carlson School of Management studied employees using treadmills instead of office chairs as they work. The offices of 40 employees were retrofitted to have a computer, phone and writing space on a desk in front of a treadmill.

They were studied for one year and their bosses reported on their work ethic and productivity.

The co-author of the study, Prof. Avner Ben-Ner, stopped by our KSTP-TV studio to discuss the study. He said they learned that productivity had improved and workers burned 7 to 8 percent more calories.
