President Barack Obama has invited the University of Minnesota women's hockey team to the White House.

Obama recognized national championship teams in a formal ceremony Monday on the South Lawn.

The Gophers compiled a 62-game winning streak from 2011 to 2013, capping a 41-0-0 record in 2013 with their second straight national championship.

In the 2012-13 perfect season, Minnesota became the first women's Division I team to finish the season unbeaten. The Gophers beat Boston University 6-3 for the national championship on March 24, 2013, at Ridder Arena.

The Minnesota travel party left Sunday from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and will return Monday evening to prepare for the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Gophers host Boston University Saturday for the right to go to the Frozen Four in Connecticut.
