For smokers ready to kick the habit, Wednesday is national "Kick Butts Day."

QUITPLAN Services hosted five Kick Butts Day events across the state.

The events were held at Anoka Ramsey Community College, Minneapolis Community and Technical College, Inver Hills Community College, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, and Rochester Community and Technical College.

During the event, students were invited to kick a giant cigarette butt punching bag. They were also asked to sign up for new tools from QUITPLAN, including free nicotine patches, lozenges or gum.

Mike Shelden from Clearway Minnesota stopped by our KSTP-TV studio to discuss the effort to help smokers quit. He said Minnesotans who are addicted have free access to QUITPLAN services which includes tools for smokers to quit effectively.
