Crews are continuing to work on the demolition of the remains of the Metrodome to make way for the new Vikings stadium. According to the Vikings, the final pieces of the stadium were dismantled over the weekend even though the final demolition was scheduled to be completed in April.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority released a project update Wednesday:
According to MSFA, more than 80 percent of the Metrodome will be recycled. Stadium seats that were not sold were recycled. Metals being recycled include 2,500 tons of structural steel, 25 tons of precious metals and 300 tons of roof cables.
The new stadium is expected to be completed ahead of the 2016 football season.
