Eight members of the Minnesota Orchestral Association Board have resigned in protest of last week’s announcement of President and CEO Michael Henson stepping down.
This is a small portion of the 77-member board.
“This has been a difficult time for the Minnesota Orchestra, as we emerge from a long labor dispute and face challenging issues. I was disappointed to receive any resignations – as these directors have all been very dedicated members of the board. I hope we are able to get some to reconsider, but I respect their opinions and decisions,” said Board Chair Gordon Sprenger.
Save Our Symphony said in a news release they support the move to replace Henson and say it's “a necessary step” on the path to bringing the orchestra back from the “brink of disaster.”
Hanson will leave his post Aug. 31.
The Minnesota Orchestra Board of Directors is establishing a committee to identify a successor to Henson, and a search will be launched next month.
