I just finished watching a review copy of Scream Factory/Shout Factory’s “Beneath” on DVD, and I really enjoyed it a lot.

It was a pretty exciting and fun film to watch.

“Beneath” was directed by Larry Fessenden(“Wendigo,” “The Last Winter”) and stars Danny Zovatto (“Innocence”), Bonnie Dennison (“Stake Land” “Third Watch”), Chris Conroy (“Sorority Row”) Mackenzie Rosman (“7th Heaven”) and Mark Margolis (“Breaking Bad”).

“Beneath” is about a group of high school kids who go out to a friend’s cabin for the weekend to celebrate their graduation.  The cabin is owned by Johnny’s (Danny Zovatto) parents, and there is a strange mythical creature that is supposed to be in the lake.  Johnny doesn’t tell his friends about it, and when they head out onto the lake in a row boat to go swimming, the creature shows up and starts terrorizing the kids.  The creature attacks the boat and the oars are destroyed so the kids have to try and get back to shore and to also survive the deadly attacks of the creature.

I though thought that the story was pretty good.  It’s has been done before, but I still enjoyed it.  I really liked how the group of friends had to try and survive both mentally and physically. I also wanted to see if they got back to shore and if they could kill the creature.

The special effects were pretty good.  The creature didn’t look that real or believable, but the blood and gore looked great.

The special features that are on “Beneath” are very entertaining.  They include:
 - Audio commentary by Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick
 - A Look Behind Beneath: Making the “Fish Movie”
 - Theatrical Trailer
 - Fessenden on “Jaws”
 - From the Web: What The Zeke?
 - What’s in Black Lake

There is also a digital copy of “Beneath” that comes packaged with the DVD, so that’s nice if you want to take the film on the go and watch it.

I really enjoy films like “Beneath” a lot because, when people are put into a situation that they do not have much control over and if they feel trapped, their reactions and thinking are much different.  They become unpredictable and anything could happen.

I would highly recommend that you check out Scream Factory/Shout Factory’s “Beneath.”  It’s a fun and very thrilling film to watch and there are a ton of amazing special features that come on the DVD.

“Beneath” is not rated.
