Deadline Looms for 2013 Tax Filing Season

There are only a few days left until the deadline to file your 2013 income taxes.

If you're one of the many Americans rushing at the last minute, you might be in trouble. The head of the IRS says he hopes only 30 percent of all calls made to the agency this tax season will go unanswered, which is an optimistic outlook. Last year, 40 percent of calls went unanswered.

Those who did get through had an average wait time of 18 minutes. Officials say those waits are because of a $1 billion budget cut to the agency.

There are places you can get help, including the IRS website or mobile app. You can also turn to services like H&R Block, Turbo Tax and Tax Act. They also have mobile apps in addition to their websites.

"There’s a lot of new innovation coming in the mobile app space. So now, either on your iPad or your iPhone, you're able to file a tax return, get tax questions answered and check on the status of your refund," said Kathy Pickering with the Tax Institute at H&R Block.

If you still file through snail mail, the post office at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport will be open through the midnight deadline on Tuesday, April 15.
