Mankato police arrested a woman and two men, and recovered a handgun in connection to a shooting that left one person dead and three others injured early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred outside of Kato Entertainment Center at 200 E. Chestnut St. around 1:53 a.m.
According to Commander Jeremy Clifton with the Mankato Police Department, the people arrested have been identified as 20-year-old Dilang Nhial Dat, 21-year-old Kim Tong Yik Doluony, and 18-year-old Nyeyoup David Gach.
Doluony was arrested for possession of a pistol without a permit, while Gach and Dat were arrested for disorderly conduct.
After the shooting all four victims were taken to a local hospital in Mankato, police said. Twenty-two-year-old Poth Wantok Acouth later died. Acouth is a college student at Iowa Western.
The other three victims are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. At this point, their identities are not being released. Police believe the shooting was not a random act.
Kato Entertainment Center says they rented a banquet room to a South Sudanese Group at Minnesota State University (MSU) for a celebratory party. There was no alcohol served at the event and approximately 140 students attended, according to a statement from Kato Entertainment Center.
Police say there was a small fight inside and a developing fight outside, but the motive is unclear. As the investigation into the shootings continues, more people could be arrested.
