Rosemount's Gabby Sprang faces Prior Lake's Justus Perry.
Rosemount's Gabby Sprang showed why she is one of the top pitchers in the state and is headed to the Southeastern Conference someday.
The freshman and Tennessee commit shut out Prior Lake Tuesday afternoon at Rosemount High School in a close 1-0 win despite a close attempt by the 2013 state runner-up to tie the game late.
Three and a half scoreless innings went by until Rosemount's Madi Van Sickle earned a RBI, and ultimately the game winning hit, with a grounder splitting Prior Lake's middle infielders.
Prior Lake loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning and looked in position to tie the game. But, Sprang forced two manageable, infield plays and struck out a batter to escape the jam without giving up a run.
Sprang kept Justus Perry's bat quiet. Perry, Prior Lake's sophomore infielder who has committed to Auburn, the conference rival of Tennessee, could face Sprang again in college.
