With all the rain, KSTP went to Mike Frattalone of Frattalone's Ace Hardware to get tips on how to prevent flooding at your home.
Frattalone says you should make sure your sump pump is working. “All you have to do is go into your sump pump well and lift this little switch up. If it turns your sump pump on you know it's working," said Frattalone.
He also recommends checking your downspouts to make sure they didn't detach during the winter and if you need new ones.
Flood water can increase pressure on your sewage system, leading to possible sewage back-ups. The Minnesota Department of Health recommends only flushing toilets, taking baths and doing laundry when necessary.
