The Gopher softball team will attempt to closeout one of its best seasons in school history this weekend. No. 18 Minnesota will travel to Indiana this weekend to take on Purdue in a three-game series to end the regular season.
With a record of 36-8 this season, the Gophers hold a .818 win percentage. They are currently ranked third in the Big Ten with a record of 14-5. Only Michigan (17-3) and Nebraska (15-5) rank ahead of the Gophers.
Minnesota has outsourced its opponents 256-93 this season, including 26-2 in a sweep over Penn State last weekend.
Senior pitcher Sara Moulton, formerly of Eagan, leads the Gophers from the mound. The senior was recently drafted fifth overall in the National Pro Fastpitch College Draft. If Moulton accepts the offer, she will be the sixth Gopher to play in the league.
The Gophers start the postseason May 8-10 when they travel to Northwestern University for the Big Ten Tournament. If Minnesota remains one of the top four teams in the conference, it will receive a bye in the first round of the tournament.
Minnesota lost the conference championship game to Wisconsin last year.
The Gophers will learn on May 11 if they qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
