The Minnesota Gopher softball team opens the NCAA Regional Friday. The 16th-ranked Gophers will open the tournament against Green Bay at 6:30 on Friday.
It is the first time the Gophers have hosted the tournament since 2002.
Auburn and North Dakota State will also be featured in the tournament with a 4 p.m. match-up on Friday.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament will advance to the Super Regionals next week.
The Gophers are 7-12 all-time in NCAA tournament play, earning one win in 2013 over Portland State before being eliminated by Hawaii. Green Bay and Minnesota last met in April 2012 and split a doubleheader.
The Gophers improved to 41-9 this season after winning their first Big Ten Championship since 1999 last weekend. Erica Meyer secured the 3-2 win over Michigan with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.
The Gophers hold the schools best winning percentage at .820.
