Police have been receiving reports of a black bear roaming around Savage on Friday.
Police say there have been three reports of sightings. The most recent was around 10 a.m. when the bear stopped traffic as it crossed Highway 13 near 126th Street W. There were also reports of the bear being seen around 5 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. near Highway 13.
Chief Rodney Seurer said police responded to all three reports and were unable to find the bear.
Based on reports, police believe it’s a small black bear, maybe about 1 1/2 years old. They think it’s trying to head toward the river near Highway 13.
Police say the bear does not appear to be a threat. They say the bear appears to be afraid of people and traffic, and is running away from both.
The bears are usually found mainly in the northern third of Minnesota.
