Officials have identified the person killed in a rush-hour crash on Highway 13 near Burnsville on Tuesday. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 71-year-old Darwin Berg of Chaska was killed.
The head-on crash near Washburn Avenue South was reported around 4:30 p.m.
Berg was south on Highway 13 and abruptly swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing head-on with a 2007 Ford Edge, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
A 2008 Nissan Altima couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended the Ford Edge.
Berg was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to the state patrol.
Fifty-five-year-old Jeanna Meyer of Lakeville, who was driving the Ford Edge, suffered a non-life threatening injury. A passenger in the Nissan Ultima, 31-year-old Patrick Bye of Hampton, had no apparent injury.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area, which is under construction. Cars were getting by on just the shoulder as crews worked to clear the scene.
