Local experts looked to help Duluth residents navigate the world of home improvements on Tuesday evening.

One Roof Community Housing hosted a home improvement workshop to inform residents about approaching flood aid deadlines as they continue recovery and rebuilding.

One Roof Education and Lending Associate Jackie Kemp warned about the approaching deadlines.

“So we do have some important flood relief deadlines approaching. Particularly the SBA, the small business administration, deadline on October 15th.” Kemp said. “We just want folks to know that they need to meet that deadline or it's going to close some doors on other options for relief,” she said.

But the workshop covered more than just flood recovery.

New homeowner Kurt Drengler of Duluth had projects in mind for his 100-year-old home and wanted to know about permitting issues.

"We're looking to replace our three of our porches. We have three decks that are all a little bit weathered so that's going to be next summer's project so I think the permitting process will be soon explored at our house” he said

Drengler says these organizations are helpful to homeowners looking to understand the in’s and out’s of renovations.

“Going through this whole buying process we’ve heard a lot about One Roof and D.E.E.P (Duluth Energy Efficiency Program) and it’s just great to know that there’s a lot of these services and organizations available in Duluth,” he said.
