Cliffs Natural Resources announced that Hibbing Taconite has made a $100,000 contribution towards the purchase of a heavy equipment simulator for Hibbing Community College. Essar Steel also donated $100,000.

The technology will provide simulation of several types of mining equipment, such as production trucks and shovels.

The simulator was purchased through a Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant and matching contributions from industry partners.

Essar is very pleased to share in contributing, along with Hibbing Taconite and JoyGlobal.

"We look forward to hiring our mining equipment operators and seeing them graduate from the HCC simulator training program and begin operating Essar mining equipment next year," said Casey Venema, from Essar Steel.

A grant signing ceremony was held Wednesday at Hibbing Community College.

The simulator will be available for student training at the beginning of 2013.
