The holidays are right around the corner, and that means those recognizable red curtains are going up again in downtown Duluth.
On Monday, Dan Neff, owner of Lake Superior Art Glass, was drilling holes, getting ready to hang the curtains, masking the open window front in his shop.
His business is just one of 26, which are participating in the Greater Downtown Council's storefront window display and lighting contest. All week long, business will work behind the scenes to assemble a dazzling display with the great unveil happening on Friday.
Darlene Marshall, Event Coordinator with the Greater Downtown Council said the event is all about getting into the holiday spirit, and the shopping season in downtown Duluth.
"Everybody loves it. It gets them into the holiday spirit. They can window shop. It's just a more festive atmosphere," Marshall said. "There are just some outstanding windows every year. Lots of color, lots of lights. It's beautiful."
Marshall said three judges will eventually choose a winner. There's also a People's Choice Award winner, too. Shoppers can vote using ballot boxes in participating stores.
