The smell of turkey filled the air outside the Marine General store in Duluth Wednesday morning.
A little more than a week ahead of Thanksgiving, Marine General's Russ Francisco taught people how to fry turkeys in oil. That little bit of education has been happening for about 50 years. But in recent years, Francisco said the event has taken on a new purpose. Now he does fundraising to buy bikes and toys for kids.
Francisco said, "it's not a competition, so whatever the cause is, and whoever you're working with, if it's toys for kids, take a couple dollars if you can afford it and help us out. Help somebody out."
Francisco hopes to collect about $20,000 in donations, bikes and toys for kids, which will end up going to the Salvation Army.
The fundraiser continues into December, and you can donate at the store on London Road.
