The owner of two assisted living facilities in the Northland is appealing a move by state regulators not to renew one license and revoke another.
This month, the Minnesota Department of Health issued a notice of intent not to renew the license for Wendigo Pines Grand Rapids and to revoke the license for Wendigo Pines Chisholm. The state alleges numerous violations of health care statutes and rules at the Grand Rapids facility, and Chisholm became involved because the facilities have common ownership.
The owners of Wendigo Pines have appealed the decision and the facilities will remain open as usual while the legal process plays out. A health department spokesperson said the appeals process can take as long as a year.
Wendigo Pines Administrator and owner Raisa Kotula said she disagrees with the allegations and said Wendigo Pines "provided excellent care for our clients." She said they intend to take the matter to court.
