Minneapolis, Minn. - Moose Lake/Willow River has done it again with a 27-20 win over Jackson County Central and the Rebels are back in the Class AA Championship.
"We really did execute well when we needed to and completed some big passes when we needed too, which we haven't been able to do in the past and that was really good to see," says Head Coach Dave Louzek.
"The line was working good today and the backs were hitting the holes, scoring touchdowns, running hard and protecting the ball and it was a tight game because they were a good team, but the line controlled the line of scrimmage, the backs hit the holes that we made and it was great," says Senior OL/DL Jake Christopherson.
"This is the best feeling in the world and we knew that hard-work pays off and to get to that point and to be able to stop them right there and do our best by playing Rebel football - that is the victory, says Senior RB Michael Pender.
"When it comes to this level of football, one running back can't make it. You just can't make it. But, when all three and even four running backs work together and with the line and it is in perfect sync, that is what is going to get you to a state championship and hopefully win," says Senior RB/WR Jake Disterhaupt.
"These kids know - four years in a row - and have been in the State Tournament and three out of the last four years, have been in the prep bowl now and that experience is huge," says Louzek.
The Rebels have an interesting opportunity as they will play Caledonia on November 23rd and Caledonia is the team that beat the Rebels in last year's State Championship.
