‘Tis the season to attempt to untangle strings of holiday lights that no matter how carefully were packed away last winter, somehow find ways to snarl.  It’s also the time of year to discover some of those lights no longer work.

Wondering what to do with old holiday lights? St. Louis County Environmental Services is partnering with the Recycling Association of Minnesota, Clean Energy Resource Teams and Minnesota State Operated Community Services (MSOCS) to collect old holiday lighting for recycling. The program called "Recycle Your Holidays" provides 15 County collection bin locations, as well as collection boxes in several local retail establishments.

The Recycle Your Holidays program employs over 200 individuals with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota.  Last year over 200,000 pounds of plastic, glass and wire from old holiday lights were recycled state-wide.

You can drop off old holiday lights and other electrical cords at various St. Louis County courthouses.  A complete list of county drop-off locations is available at their website, or by calling 800-450-9278.
