The Amsoil Duluth National race is like the first day of school for snocross riders. Even veterans like Ross Martin get a case of the nerves.

"I don't care who you ask, the first race, you're always a little nervous, jitters," Martin said. "You don't really know what to expect. That's just how it is the first weekend."

Last year's points champion Tim Tremblay says when it comes to the Pro Open class, consistency is more important than speed.

"You never know, sometimes there are kids that are really fast but they can crash or something like that," Tremblay said. "I think it's better to stay consistent and win as much as you can. If not, just podium."

Tremblay is new to the Scheuring Speed Sports team this season. Teammate Robbie Malinoski says Tremblay is pushing fellow riders to take it to the next level.

"He's bringing his A-game and the level of competition up to our team, so I'm excited about that," Malinoski said. "It makes me want to work harder."

Right now, Planet X is the only place in the United States with enough snow to have a course open. For some drivers, this is their only chance to work out the kinks before the Spirit Mountain race.

"Our season is so confined into one two to three week period where we gotta get tested, gotta get enough laps in, gotta get in shape for Duluth," Malinoski said. "So now is a crucial time for us."

Lack of snow can bring obstacles and unpredictability to the Duluth course, but Malinoski and Martin won races there last year.

"It was a pretty good weekend for me," Martin said. "It'll be tough to top that this year, but I'm definitely gonna go for it."

"I feel good. I'm healthy, the sleds are in good shape and stuff so I feel like there's nothing stopping me from going out there and doing it again," Malinoski said.

These guys finished in the top three in the Pro Open standings last season, and hope to land on that Spirit Mountain podium this weekend.
