Duluth, Minn. - In September of 2011, Al Sands lost a fight and since then, he has thought often about a rematch. In a few months, he will get it and get a shot at a title at the same time.
"The Haitian Temptation" (6-1) takes on Tyrone (T.J.) Gibson (1-3) on February 9th at the Crowne Plaza Ballroom in St. Paul, Minnesota for the vacant Minnesota Cruiserweight Championship. Sands and Gibson are ranked one and two respectively. Sands has won his last four fights.
"Camp has just gotten that much more intense and when he (Sands) fights, he is just that much more prepared. As you can see, knockout after knockout and he is number one in the state. We are taking people out. I'm not sure if T.J. is going to last the whole time, but if he does, he is probably going to wish that he didn't," says Trainer Zach "Jungle Boy" Walters.
"It is really great to be number one, but to be considered the champion brings you to a whole other level compared to everyone else in the state. To have something to hold onto and to recognize yourself as the best and that you have beat everybody that there is to beat and that you are number one, it would really mean a lot to bring that back to Duluth," says Sands.
