A Duluth hospital is being recognized for its quick and comprehensive stroke care, according to Kim Kaiser, a media relations specialist at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center.
Kaiser said Monday that the hospital has been certified as a Primary Stroke Center.
Kaiser said the hospital's ability to provide fast, coordinated care was recently recognized by the Joint Commission, a group that certifies and provides accreditation to hospitals.
Dr. Nicholas Itzin, an emergency medicine physician, said "the accreditation signals to our patients that we're providing the best, most comprehensive stroke care."
He explained that "the Joint Commission analyzes every part of the patient experience while receiving stroke care at [the hospital]. They're looking at how fast and well the medical team responds to each patient. Each member of the team plays a critical role."
