Sappi Fine Paper has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing nearly 400 workers at its Cloquet facility.
The company tells Eyewitness News it reached the tentative deal with United Steelworkers Local 11-63 late last week. Union officials would not comment on the details of the contract, but say it has been revised from an earlier offer.
Sappi said the union has scheduled membership meetings for Friday to vote on the tentative agreement.
The deal came a few days after union members voted to authorize a strike. However, no strike has been called. Sappi had said it would fully pursue continued operation of the mill in the event of a strike.
The union members have been working under a contract extension since May. Dozens of workers held an informational picket at the plant in October, saying the company was requesting employees pay a higher health care deductible.
