Saint Louis County road crews had a busy year thanks to June flooding. The public works department usually sees about $25 million worth of road repairs, but this year it was a different story.
Their work load nearly doubled in 2012 with $15 million worth of additional flood repair projects. In total, the department handled $52 million in road repairs.
After that summer flooding, 94 roads were closed in Saint Louis County. By July, that number was down to only nine.
Funding for the additional projects came from a variety of federal and state programs.
