DETROIT (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Mounted Police are wrapping up two days of small-boat training exercises in preparation for joint patrols along the U.S. -Canada border that runs down the middle of the Detroit River.

The exercises took place Monday and Tuesday in the waters between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. The Coast Guard says the agencies conducted the exercise in preparation for implementation of bi-national agreements governing joint patrols.

The Detroit-Windsor boundary area is one of two locations where U.S. and Canadian authorities plan to integrate cross-border maritime law enforcement operations. It's known as the Shiprider program.

The other area is between Blaine, Wash., and Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Coast Guard says Shiprider entails U.S. and Canadian law enforcement officers jointly staffing vessels.
