For Anita Bates, the Mothers and Children Program at Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is about feeding her family of six right.

"It's healthy, and that's one thing I love about it," Bates said.  "So it's non-perishables in the box. Plus then some cheese, then there's been some in-season fresh things."

The family enrolled in the program about a year ago. Once a month, they pick up a box of food. You qualify if you have a child exactly the age of five and don't quality for WIC.  Kristin, the second Bates daughter, hit that age, and the whole family benefits.

"It's been helpful in making our food stretch through the month," Anita Bates said.  "It's made a difference for us as well as the other families that are in the program."
