Duluth's police force is welcoming its newest batch of officers on board.

Plenty of family and friends attended a swearing-in ceremony at Duluth's Public Safety Building on Friday afternoon.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness opened the special occasion, saying that every officer has made a commitment of safety to every citizen of Duluth.

Duluth Police Chief Gordon Ramsay thanked other agencies for their support, including City of Duluth administration and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Duluth Police Public Information Officer Jim Hansen said 11 new officers are joining the authorized strength of the department's 150 sworn officers.

Hansen said a swearing-in ceremony happens about once a year, depending on retirements.

Family and friends were able to pin on the new officers' badges as each was sworn in.
