Construction for a new brewing company in Duluth is underway.
It's called the Bent Paddle Brewing Company and it's in the Lincoln Park area. It will be a production brewery, which means the craft beer will be distributed to liquor stores, restaurants and bars. It will not be a brew pub, but there will be a tap room at the Michigan Street location where people can taste the beers.
"It's going to be a perfect little place to interact with us, as brewers and owners," Owner Bryon Tonnis said. "(You can) come in and taste our beer. You can't get it any fresher; it's going to be made right here."
Tonnis, along with three other people, own the new company. Tonnis has been a professional brewer for 12 years, but has always wanted to start up his own company.
"It's in my blood," Tonnis said. "The first day I home brewed a batch of beer I knew there was something special about it and it stuck with me."
Tonnis said the Bent Paddle Brewery will open in early spring. They hope to start sales in the Twin Ports region, but eventually expand to the Twin Cities and northwestern Wisconsin.
Two beers will be released at first, but more will come in the following months.
