Northland snowmobilers began the first leg of a trip to benefit the Special Olympics Thursday morning, leaving from the Superior Shores Resort in Two Harbors.
During the 25th year of the Northland 300, snowmobilers ride the about 150 miles to Ely and back over the course of three days.
"This is like a family event," rider Diane Reger said. "We're all together and everybody comes back year after year for the same spirit and just getting together. It's like getting together for a family reunion and doing it for a great cause."
Reger, a ride participant for the past 15 years, said riders get a free day before heading back south.
