The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland have long been celebrating one particular student each year--a student who embodies the organization's core mission for character and development. It's their Youth of the Year award. On Tuesday, it was awarded to Cassie Mahlberg.
Mahlberg was nominated by the Lincoln Park Branch and received her award during the annual ceremony at Duluth's Holiday Inn.
Mahlberg will now go on to compete on state and regional levels where a National Youth of the Year is selected. The competition focuses on personal development attributes needed to successfully make that transition to adulthood.
Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon was the keynote speaker at Tuesday's 41st annual event.
