Welch Signs With Gophers

Proctor, Minn. - He's the reigning Class A State Champion in Cross Country and he's headed to the state's top cross country team as Proctor's Matt Welch is going to the Minnesota Gophers.

Welch signed his letter of intent today to compete for the division one school. He has been named the Gatorade Male Runner of the Year in the state. Welch will also compete in Track and Field.

"Sophomore year was when it really hit me that I might have some talent with the whole running thing and I decided to quit basketball and join Nordic Ski to help my running and help my endurance, to make a better athlete out of myself and I think that was a great decision," says Welch.
