LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Some Republican lawmakers are reintroducing measures to allow guns in Michigan schools.

Kewadin Republican Rep. Greg MacMaster introduced a bill last month to let local school officials allow teachers, administrators or employees carry a concealed pistol in the school. MacMaster says school officials would be required to create a policy for training and rules for storing the firearm.

Speaker Jase Bolger has questioned whether making schools gun-free zones has done more harm than good. But Bolger says it is not the time to push for gun legislation and is urging lawmakers to "take a breath."

Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed a bill at the end of last year that would have allowed concealed firearms in schools, churches and daycare centers.
