It's not often that you have a house party without the owner actually being there, but advocates for affordable housing were using that visual in Duluth on Thursday.
Open House Duluth hosted this Valentine's Day theme party, in a foreclosed, vacant home to help make a point.
Donna Howard, an organizer with Open House Duluth, said there are so many homes sitting empty with just as many homeless people.
"There are vacant houses sitting in every neighborhood of Duluth. They're deteriorating, they're bringing down property values and they're not being managed," Howard said. "So we're having this event in a vacant house to call attention to the fact that houses need people and people need houses."
The group is asking the city of Duluth to use eminent domain to claim those vacant properties to be used for affordable housing stock.
