Biwabik, Minn. - For the second straight day, a state meet was held at Giants Ridge. On Wednesday, it was the State Alpine Ski Meet. On Thursday, it was the State Nordic Ski Meet. All eyes were on the Duluth East girl's, who were after their third straight title.
In the boy's team competition, the Ely Timberwolves finished in second place, just 20 points behind champion Eden Prairie, who ended up with a score of 378. Jakob Ellingson of Hopkins is the Individual State Champion, notching a pursuit time of 29:24.4.
In the girl's team competition, Duluth East's streak stops at two as Wayzata wins with a score of 365. The Greyhounds were just three points back. But, East's Anna Kubek, a senior, won the Individual State Championship. Her pursuit time was 33:58.9.
"With all the racing that she (Kubek) has done, she knows how to go out and pace herself and she is always a very determined athlete who gives it everything she has," says Duluth East Head Coach Bonnie Fuller-Kask.
"The skate race went really well and last week, I got second in Sections, so I had a plan before the race and then, it worked out," says Kubek.
