Deputies responded to two snowmobile accidents in Pine County Saturday.
The first happened on the Saint Croix River north of the Soderbeck River Landing at about 6:40 p.m.
Deputies found a snowmobile partially submerged on the edge of open water. The victim was not found, but riders at the scene said the victim was thrown from the snowmobile and disappeared into the water.
Deputies think the current may have taken the victim downstream.
Conditions were too dangerous to conduct a search in the water, but crews worked on foot, snowmobile and helicopter. Crews continued the search on Sunday, but called it off at around 12:30 p.m.
The victim has still not been found and is not being identified.
A few hours after that accident, the Pine County Sheriff's Office was called to Pokegama Lake for another snowmobile accident.
Deputies said a snowmobiler struck an island on the lake and was thrown from the machine.
That victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The name is not being released, but the victim was listed in critical condition as of Sunday morning.
