Superior police say a man died several hours after falling eight to ten feet down an elevator shaft Thursday night.
The incident happened at a warehouse on North 1st Street near the Blatnik Bridge. Police learned of the incident when staff at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital - Superior reported that a patient had come in to the emergency room complaining of injuries resulting from a fall several hours earlier. The man later died from his injuries.
Police identified the victim as Douglas Glen Moen, 65.
Officers interviewed two men who said they had been moving furniture with Moen at the warehouse. The men said it was very dark and Moen fell down the shaft when he was trying to find a light switch. The men said Moen declined having an ambulance called, so they took him to the hospital on their own.
