Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has been elected Chair of the Midwestern Governors Association.
The election came Sunday as the governors met in Washington. Dayton succeeds Iowa Governor Terry Branstad for the one-year term.
"I am honored to have been chosen by my fellow governors to be Chair of the Midwestern Governors Association," Dayton said in a press release. "I look forward to working with them to further strengthen our region and address invasive species, which are a significant threat to our region's ecosystem, way of life and economic stability. I also want to thank Governor Branstad for his tremendous leadership and work to renew the Midwestern brand over the past year."
Dayton said his agenda will focus on coordinating state responses to invasive species. He said governors will hold a meeting of policy advisors, state natural resources and agriculture secretaries, federal agencies, and experts from academia.
