MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald tells The Associated Press that public school spending will not be frozen as Gov. Scott Walker proposed.

Fitzgerald said Wednesday that there is "no doubt at all" spending will be allowed to increase starting next year. Walker's budget did not allow for any increase.

Fitzgerald tells AP, "You're going to see an increase in the per-pupil amount."

A pair of Republican senators on Friday called for an increase of $150 per student in each of the next two years. Fitzgerald was initially noncommittal, but Wednesday he told AP there is no doubt spending will be allowed to increase.

Fitzgerald says he doesn't know just how much it will be allowed to go up.

Walker's spokesman had no immediate comment.
