ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Hermantown will play St. Thomas Academy in the Class 1A championship for the third straight year. Zach Kramer's breakaway goal in the second overtime Friday gave Hermantown a 4-3 victory over Breck in the semifinals and another chance to beat St. Thomas Academy, which breezed by East Grand Forks 11-0 in the other game at Xcel Energy Center.
Hermantown (25-4-1) trailed 3-2 until Travis Koepke scored with 5:53 remaining in regulation. Koepke had two goals and Bo Gronseth and Neal Pionk each had two assists for the Hawks. St. Thomas Academy (26-2-2) has outscored its first two opponents in the state tournament 23-0. Wyatt Schmidt led the Cadets with four goals, including two of the team's six in the second period.
STA is moving to Class 2A next season. Hermantown will play for the State A Finals on Saturday at 12:00 pm. The game will be televised by WDIO/WIRT-TV.
