Duluth, Minn. - He is now 2-0 in 2013 and has won his last six fights. "The Haitian Temptation" Al Sands contained "Cold Steel" Chris Thomas (17-18-2) on Friday night at Grandma's Sports Garden in Duluth.
The official decision was a third round technical knockout by way of "corner retirement." Sands will fight again on April 27th as a co-headliner for the "Welcome to the Jungle" show at Black Bear Casino. With his latest win, Sands is now 8-1.
"It was a great night and he is a very tough customer and has been in there with world champions and my conditioning is the best it has been for all of my fights and we were prepared to go the full six rounds and I was surprised they stopped it towards the end of the third," said Sands.
"He (Sands) caught Chris and opened up a nice cut over his eye with a right hand and he kept on nailing it and drove him to the ropes and took it to the body, bop-bop-bop and Chris was getting hurt," said Trainer/Promoter Zach Walters.
