The Duluth Fire Department was called out to a fire at an abandoned home Wednesday.

Investigators later determined it was arson. They found footprints in the snow leading up to and away from the home.

Authorities said crews were called out to a condemned home on the 3600 block of Piedmont Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. They cleared the scene around 6:30 a.m.

When crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed and firefighters attacked the flames from the outside. But no surrounding properties suffered damage and no injuries were reported.

The fire department said the building is basically destroyed. The fire marshal is investigating the blaze.
