Grand Rapids Falls In State Quarterfinals

nullThe Thunderhawks' tenure at the state boys basketball tournament was shorter than they had hoped. Grand Rapids lost 69-52 to Marshall in the Class AAA quarterfinals at Williams Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore center Alex Illikainen led the Thunderhawks with 31 points. Junior guard AJ Watland had nine points and seven assists.

Marshall led by ten points at halftime. Grand Rapids closed the gap in the second half, but the Tigers outrebounded the Thunderhawks 27-14.

This was Grand Rapids' sixth consecutive appearance at the state tournament. They wrapped up their season with a 20-10 record.
